the little airmaid

In early childhood I was able to fly. At stairhead I closed my eyes and when I opened them again I stood downstairs. Sometimes I opened my eyes during the flight and saw myself floating in the air, above the dark and narrow stairs of our small house. I was never afraid and thought that everyone could do this. But adults and also other children where alienated when I mentioned it and so I kept silent.

I was a weird, disturbing child and learnt to hide my traits. Because I want to belong, to be more like others, even if I have to clip my wings. I cut them off, but never learnt to walk properly.
