Heini Hediger, Wildtiere in Gefangenschaft - ein Grundriss der Tiergartenbiologie, Basel 1942
1934 a black panther escaped from Zurich's zoo. He survived 10 weeks
during the Swiss winter until he was killed by a hungry labourer.
The animal pictures of American artist Walton Ford (b. 1960) resemble the natural science illustrations of former centuries. The captions explain the story, inspired by travelogues and old science books.
Their content is always sinister, exposing ambush, destruction, human perversion and the struggle for freedom, mostly in vain, cruel agony as the result.
